The coaches at ANA play a crucial role in ensuring netball is a positive and enjoyable experience for all our athletes. They are also an integral part of the development of our athletes at all levels. Our aim is to ensure that our coaches have the opportunity to continually develop their coaching skills, ability and knowledge and to assist them to move through the Netball WA Coach Pathway.

The ANA will be offering the following two courses to club coaches in 2024.

Foundation Coach
Online Course

Description

The Foundation Coach Online Course outlines introductory coaching information and basic netball techniques for beginner coaches, teachers, parents and NetSetGO coaches. 

What you’ll learn

  1. Identify the roles and responsibilities of the coach

  2. Understand the coaching implications of the Netball Australia Codes of Behaviour.

  3. Understand the social development considerations for why children play sport.

  4. Identify and implement good coaching practices to reduce risk.

  5. Implement minor incident-management procedures.

  6. Keep accurate records regarding medical history and injury reporting.

  7. Cater for the physical and social development of participants.

  8. Understand the role of NetSetGO and its place in the player development pathway.

  9. Understand the benefits of using a game sense approach to teach game concepts and develop long term learning.

  10. Understand the importance of effective group management skills to maximise opportunities for successful participation.

  11. Identify the elements of a training session.

  12. Understand the planning and review process.

  13. Utilise effective communication techniques to develop player understanding of the basic skills of netball.

  14. Understand how to safely teach the basic skills of netball.

  15. Identify skill faults and correct technique for the basic skills of netball.

  16. Understand the coaching implications of the basic rules of netball.

Please Note: To gain your Foundation Coach Accreditation, you must also have a current Rules of Netball Exam result of 70% or higher. The exam is $12.50 and can be found here.

Development Coach
Online Course

Description

Welcome to the Development Coach Online Course. This course is designed for club, association and regional coaches and teachers aiming to further their netball knowledge. This course provides a good introduction to skill progression and fault detection with correction.

What you’ll learn

  1. Demonstrate effective coaching communication strategies 

  2. Demonstrate effective group management strategies 

  3. Review the first five steps of the seven steps of skill progression 

  4. Apply the steps of skill progression within a practical environment/activity 

  5. Understand, safely teach and apply the principles of the Netball Australia KNEE Program 

  6. Safely teach, identify and correct technique faults in netball for; – ball handling skills – movement and footwork skills – attacking skills – defending skills – goal shooting / circle defence skills 

  7. Create and progress appropriate skills sessions into dynamic situations 

  8. Create and evaluate simple Game Day team goals and strategies 

  9. Apply the techniques of basic netball skills into relevant court situations 

  10. Apply the principles of positional and team play into basic court strategy 

  11. Employ four of the self-reflection methods to evaluate and improve the quality of coach management, teaching and communication (Player feedback, peer feedback, self-awareness, video analysis, and mentor Coach Developer) 

  12. Review coach education pathways and update opportunities

Face-to-Face Development Accreditation – (Development
Coach Practical Workshop)

Description

The Development Coach Workshop is an opportunity for Learners to put their theory into practice under the guidance of accreditation netball facilitators. This session combines theory and practical on-court activities. 

What you’ll learn

  • Demonstrate effective coaching communication strategies

  • Demonstrate effective group management strategies 

  • Review the first five steps of the seven steps of skill progression 

  • Apply the steps of skill progression within a practical environment/activity 

  • Understand, safely teach and apply the principles of the Netball Australia KNEE Program
