Development Squads
Development Squads are a talent development program for ANA registered players aged between 12 and 20. All appropriately aged members of ANA are offered the opportunity to trial for these select positions. Participants are selected to take part in this coaching program via Squad trials held in October of the previous year. New members to the ANA may be nominated by their club to trial at the first training session of the new season to be accepted as a member of the squad.
The development squads attend approximately six training sessions per year prior to the June long weekend for more intensive and selective age specific training with highly qualified coaches
The Development squad program is aimed at skill development, team dynamics and court movement. Other attributes that are developed through this program include work ethic, leadership qualities and the club/ team approach.
The expectation of selected athletes is commitment, training intensity and a positive attitude to personal and team development both on and off the court.
From the development squads ANA will select up to two teams per age group to participate in the FTG&P Association Championships competition and up to two teams per age group to participate in the Great Southern Regional Championships. It is NOT a requirement that you are available for selection in the FTG&P Association Championships or Great Southern Regional champs teams for you to be selected as a member of the Development Squads. You may still be a part of the Development squads and only be available for one or neither of the two competitions teams we will be selecting for. Development squads are about developing our athletes but we do use them as an opportunity for selection as well.
